How Crash Hour works

Crash Hour turns your drinks menu into a small stock market. What sells well gets more expensive, what doesn’t gets cheaper. Guests watch the prices move on the TVs. Now and then a drink crashes: for a few minutes it drops to its lowest price, and everyone at the bar sees it at once.

Part Where Used by
Back office Any browser, after you sign in Owners and managers: drinks, prices, crashes, screens, team, statistics
Till A tablet or phone at the bar, registered once Bartenders: book orders at the price on the board
Board Every paired TV Guests: live prices, crashes, your info and slides
Guest page Guests’ phones, e.g. through a QR code on the table Guests: the same board, on their phone. Can be switched off
  1. Before opening, a manager opens the market with the switch at the top of the back office. Prices start at their base price.
  2. Bartenders unlock the till with their PIN and book orders as usual.
  3. Every sale counts as demand. Every 30 seconds (you can change this) the prices are worked out again: popular drinks rise, the others fall back.
  4. Crashes start by hand, at a planned time or automatically. The TVs show them in full screen.
  5. After closing, the manager closes the market. All prices go back to base.
  6. The next day, Statistics shows what the night brought.

Prices never leave the band you set for each drink: never below its minimum, never above its maximum. See Price band.

Everyone has one role per outlet:

  • Owner: everything, including the team, market rules and new outlets.
  • Manager: runs the night: drinks, crashes, screens, tills, statistics.
  • Bartender: the till, and starting a crash from the till.

The full list is under Roles.

An outlet is one bar. If your company runs several bars, each one is its own outlet with its own drinks, prices, screens and team. Currency, time and date formats follow the outlet’s city. See Several outlets.
